Unknown God

Example Chapter - A Concept of God

I believe that if you consider the infinitude of space, the eternity of time, the inexhaustibility of individual development, the awesome variation of life and the beauty of existence, the totality of all these things may be expressed as a passing thought in the mind of God.

I do not believe in the god of any particular faith, or the god of this earth, or the god of our solar system, or of our galaxy, nor yet the god of the universe, nor the god of now, or the past, or the future, all of those come within the general concept of a passing thought in the mind of God.  Not even nothing can exist outside of that concept of God.  There is only God.  God is.  But we exist, so it can only follow that we are part of that thought of God.

Such a definition will, I hope, give you a glimpse of a Being outside of time and space and of our understanding.  At the same time within the concept lies the answer to the false paradox propounded by some atheistic scientists who claim to disprove the efficacy of prayer and the existence of God because of the distance we must be from God, who they have not yet found.  They deduce that prayer cannot work since the time taken for prayer to reach God would make it arrive too late.  But because we are of a Thought of God prayer is immediate.  There is no paradox.

We are 'of a thought of God'.  Being 'of a thought of God' we are 'of an infinite mind'.  Being 'of an infinite mind' we are 'of infinity'.  Within that definition there is a hint of the enormity of the journey in front of us, and an indication of the spiritual progress and advancement we have yet to make before we can even conceive of 'standing before our Maker'.

Such a definition allows for no 'non-God' and thereby wipes out any possibility for the existence of 'THE devil'.  If there is 'non-God' then God is not infinite since there is a place where God is not.  It is a self-contradiction.  God is one God, on earth, in Heaven, in hell, pandemic, everywhere, omnipotent, eternal, infinite, One-God.

Reacting, if you will, to the God command: 'Let there be ...' the Creation has produced life as the natural consequence of being 'of a thought of God'.  So life is pandemic throughout time and space seeking only the right conditions to express itself.  Time and space become merely a tool to that end.  Hence the earth.  Hence evolution.  Hence us.

"Religion without Dogma - Reviewer: badelaire from UK

The author of this book sets out to do what many people nowadays consider impossible - to make Christianity appeal to common sense. In doing so scientists, priesthoods, politicians and society itself find themselves firmly put in their place.

There are some ideas in here that challenge traditional teaching, and not in the popular ways. The author clearly is a Christian, one who realises that religion in its current form is losing its relevancy to a lot of people today, and wants to do something about it.

'Unknown God' also benefits from full colour plates of spiritual paintings by William Dowdall, which deserve a book to themselves.  Despite its small size this pithy little book demands re-reading. Fortunately the author's humanity and wit make this a pleasure.  This is a well written book and compulsive reading, whatever your beliefs. The chapters carry the reader along on a river of ideas and insights, challenging you to open your mind and stretch it round the flood of compelling concepts.

This is not the sort of thing you will ever get from a book club.  An absolute gem of a find."
