AuthorsVincent DowdallThe author's main career was as a Producer/Director for BBC Television making programmes about Classical Music and the Arts. In that capacity he worked in London and Wales, and also on co-productions in Belgium, Holland, Germany and Canada. His career started as an orchestral librarian in BBC television. Determined to become a television director, he trained to that end by taking courses within the BBC, the most useful being a 6-month period in the sound department of television. After a theatre course at Morley College in London, he took on additional freelance work as a theatrical stage manager and lighting technician. Eventually his freelance work led to opportunities to produce staged opera. His production of Britten's opera 'Turn of the Screw' at the Sadlers Wells Theatre brought acclaim and recognition by BBC Television. He gained entry into the production department there where he spent about twenty years making programmes. After taking early retirement in 1989, he and his wife Marie set up a business making promotional videos for young artists. This led to teaching the subject in Adult Education during which period he was the Consultant for setting the criteria for the O.C.N. qualification in video making. Now the written word has taken over from the moving image. Vincent's first book: 'Unknown God' is a thought provoking analysis of The Christ's teachings. Despite limited marketing, it sold most of its print run, prompting registration of the business Credible Books, which is now Credible Books Ltd. A second book on The Christ's teachings is now available: 'The New Birth', which is a series of conversations in question and answer form with advanced teachers from the world of spirit. It explores aspects of mankind's future spiritual evolution both as individuals and as a race. He is a free thinker accepting no church or ism. He has been interested throughout his life in the dichotomy of mankind's dual nature as having evolved from the animal and yet having a spiritual existence. He has sought the solution that apparent paradox and his book 'Unknown God' is the result of those studies. Also available from this author is 'Canada in the Year 1983, a re-written chronicle of his travel across that country looking at its broadcasting, visual arts, classical music and certain social welfare organisations. Originally written while working for the BBC it will reach a 25th anniversary in 2008 and becomes a useful source for people studying Canadian history. Vincent is currently working on a handbook: 'Television Production - From Camcorder to Broadcast TV.' aimed at video makers, who wish to improve their programmes, and prospective TV directors. The book draws on his experience in broadcasting and more recently as a video maker and tutor in video production. In a recent interview about his books Vincent said: "I got my life-long interest in the after-life from my father who had a profound knowledge of spiritual matters, Indeed he painted impressionistic views of conditions in the life-hereafter. One of his paintings: 'The Dove' features on the cover of our publication 'The New Birth' and is the logo of Credible books Ltd. As well as direct conversations with advanced teachers from the world of spirit and the teachings of The Christ, Vincent's studies included the books by R.J.Lees 'Through the Mists', 'The Life Elysian' and 'The Gate of Heaven', Swedenborg's writings, The Trismegistic Literature and many other author's who dealt with the subject of mankind's immortality. Speaking about: 'Unknown God' and 'The New Birth' Vincent continued: "My work challenges traditional Christianity; but is not intended to 'convert' anyone. I am more interested in provoking a debate, and I invite people to deny the truth of what is stated in my books - if they can!" |
